Hey, it's International Adult Learners' Week in Canada (March 1 to 7, 2010)! Official link here.
Sadly, because this is also the week of grade schools' "March Break" - and because New Brunswick civil servants have aligned our main adult literacy and GED-prep program with the k-12 school system - most of our basic adult education classes have been shut down and their facilitators laid off.
(Complaining about this stuff is like shooting fish in a barrel.)
Luckily, most of the serious adult and community literacy work happens in other, unfunded contexts, and there will still be lots of adult learning going on.
(That's another characteristic of this work: if they won't give you money, they don't have any power to shut you down.)
