Against Collusion

Let us keep naming what doesn't make sense. Let us keep clear about what we know to be true and real, and what is just nonsense. And let's keep speaking out.
Tannis Atkinson
Literacies Spring 2009

Tannis was writing of the "huge dissonance between what is happening in programs and the ridiculous rhetoric that seeks to define literacy", although she could just as well have been thinking of any number of national discourses where things said in the media or in conference rooms fail to match people's daily experiences. She was asking that we not collude, and with reason.

Here's another quote: "The better a ruling class is able to absorb the natural leaders of the oppressed classes, the more solid and dangerous its rule." That's Marx (the one without the cigar).
